Use the secure browser

Install and test Safe Exam Browser before the test.

Some tests you must take in Safe Exam Browser (SEB). It locks your computer to the test, so you cannot use other websites or programs while you write. You can tell a test uses it when it says Secure browser on the test.

You need a Mac or a Windows computer. Tablets and phones do not work.

Do this before the test day

Install and test Safe Exam Browser well in advance, so you avoid problems when the test starts.

Install Safe Exam Browser

Open the installation guide

Go to Installation guide for Safe Exam Browser(opens in a new tab). You also find it via the link to the instructions on the test.

Download

Select Download for macOS or Download for Windows.

Install

Follow the steps under Please follow these steps. On a Mac, drag the program to Applications. If you already have an older version, choose Replace. On Windows, accept the licence terms and select Install.

Test

Select Test Safe Exam Browser. If it says Your setup is correct, everything is ready. Select Exit.

If it says You are using an unsupported version of Safe Exam Browser, you also see which version you have and which one is required. Download and install again from the installation guide.

Start the test

Select Start test. Safe Exam Browser opens, and you are logged in to the test by itself. If it does not open, select the link in the Opening Safe Exam Browser window to try again.

If your teacher has given you access to apps, you find them in Safe Exam Browser. Websites your teacher has added, you find under Bookmarks at the top of the test.

Exit

When you have submitted, select Exit. Safe Exam Browser then closes.

While you are taking the test, you cannot close Safe Exam Browser before you have submitted. If you have to exit anyway, for example because the computer freezes, your teacher must enter a password.

If it says Start the test again, your teacher has changed the settings. Close the test and start it again. Your answers are kept.
