Building the test

Create a writing test

One assignment and one large writing field, for when you have a single writing task.

A Writing test has one assignment and one large writing field. It suits when you have a single writing task, for example an essay or a subject text. The pupil reads the assignment next to the writing field.

Create a writing test

Choose Writing test under Type of test when you create the test.

Write the assignment

You add the assignment on the test's page, in the Task section:

Add content

Choose Write assignment text, Add image or Add document. You can use all three, and several of each. Drag them to change the order.

Fill in

Write the text or upload the file. Under Title and description you can give the section a title. Select Done.

Choose points and pasting

Under Test options you set the Points for the test and whether Limit paste is on. Limit paste stops pupils from pasting large amounts of text. Select Save.

The Sections as pages and Show points settings do not exist for writing tests.

Change the type

  • You convert a writing test with Convert to test with multiple tasks at the bottom of the Task section. The assignment and the writing field are kept, and you edit them in the editor afterwards.
  • You convert a test with multiple tasks with Convert to writing test. Blocks that do not fit in a writing test are removed, and you see which ones before you confirm. If you convert the test back, they do not come back.

Pupils who have the test open when you change the type must close it and start it again. Their answers are kept, but answers to blocks that were removed are not shown and not graded.

For the pupil

The pupil sees the assignment on the left and writes in the field on the right. With Show the task and Hide the task the pupil can show and hide the assignment to get more room. When you grade, you see the assignment the same way, next to the answer.
