Use a start code
Require a code to start the test, so only the pupils in the classroom can begin.
With Start code, pupils must type a code before they can start the test. You show the code in the classroom, for example on the board or the projector. Then only pupils who are there can start, even though the test is open and published.
Turn on the start code
Open the settings
Go to Settings on the test's page and select Edit. You can also turn it on in the Security step when you create the test.
Turn on Start code
Turn on Start code under During the test, and select Save.
Show the code to pupils
When the start code is on, Settings shows the code in large letters. It has six characters, letters and digits.
Pupils can type the code in lowercase or uppercase, with or without spaces.
The code stays the same when you change other settings. If you turn the start code off and on again, the test gets a new code.
Create a new code
Select New code below the code in Settings, and confirm with Create new code. The old code stops working right away. Do this, for example, if the code has been shared with pupils outside the classroom, or if you use the test with a new group.
How it works for pupils
- When the pupil selects Start test, they see Enter the start code. The pupil types the code and selects Start test.
- If the code is wrong, they see The code is not correct. Check it and try again.
- The code is only needed the first time. A pupil who has started can close the test and come back without the code, even after you have created a new one.
- The start code also applies when the test is taken in the secure browser.
Duplicated tests
A copy of the test gets its own code. The code for the original test does not work on the copy.
